Blooming Folk Art & Hues

Folk Art & Hues
A personal project that made into the Nippon Paints 2019 year book!
Upon the completion of the 5th edition of 36 Days of Type,
I was inspired to create an ampersand. The theme I illustrated
was an ode to Indian Folk Art, and I sought to extend
this theme by including ‘ampersand’ in my series
So I decided to take a step back from relying on
the pen tool and the command+Z shortcut this time, opting
instead to hand-render. I tried to depict various forms of
IndianFolkArt cohesively to create a blossoming ampersand.

The illustration would feature lotus flowers, water, and
leaves inspired by the folk art form of India.

Medium: Water colour on Offwhite Kraft-Tone Sheet
Pichwai, Rajasthan
Kerala Mural
Madhubani, Bihar
Kalighat Painting, West Bengal
Tanjore Painting, Tamil Nadu
the ampersand found its place in the Nippon Paints 2019 yearbook.
